Man in custody after standoff with deputies in Ormond-By-The-Sea

ORMOND-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. — Deputies kept people inside their homes in an Ormond-By-The-Sea neighborhood while they dealt with an armed man who was holed up inside a home there.

According to deputies, John Paul, 53, drove his vehicle onto a neighbor’s lawn, and then opened fire Monday afternoon.

Deputies didn’t say if he fired at anyone.

The man barricaded himself in his home on Starlight Drive. Deputies were not allowing people into the neighborhood surrounding the home during the standoff.

The incident started around 3:30 p.m. The man was taken into custody around 6 p.m. Monday when he surrendered.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Residents who were evacuated are back in their homes Monday night.
