Man dead in Orange County mobile home fire

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators from the state fire marshal's office are trying to learn what sparked a fatal mobile home fire Sunday night.

The fire happened in the Barnett Trailer Park off of Narcoossee Road in east Orange County.

Sheriff's office investigators said a 60-year-old man who was pulled from the burning Bipe Lane home died despite efforts to save him.

"The firefighters had him out, pumping on him for like 20 minutes," said witness Phillip Halasz.

Halasz said the man appeared to be burned over much of his body.

Neighbors said they smelled smoke and then saw flames shooting from the man's trailer around 8 p.m.

"The windows just started shattering," said witness Steve Hicks.

Witnesses said neighbors tried to help but had difficulty getting into the burning trailer. Some tried to fight their way in with fire with fire extinguishers.

"It was just panic when we couldn't get in," said Hicks.

Firefighters finally got the man out of his home but he later died at the hospital.

Investigators have not released the man's name.
