Man dies after shooting at south Orange County gas station

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators said a man died after shots were fired at a 7-Eleven gas station in south Orange County Sunday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the gas station at 13451 Landstar Boulevard shortly after 1 p.m. A gunman opened fire on a man in broad daylight while dozens of people were in the area, authorities said.

There were drivers pumping gas nearby and several customers at the McDonald's next door when shots were fired.

"I didn't know what to do. I just stood there, didn't know to run or what to do," witness Simon Sumerlin said.

Sumerlin was stopping to get lunch at McDonald's when he heard the gunfire.

"I looked behind me, this guy was shooting at this gray car here. And then he turned around, walked this way and started down the sidewalk," Sumerlin said.

Within minutes, Orange County deputies were in the area searching for the gunman, but he wasn't located. Investigators haven't released a detailed suspect description.

The victim, identified as 20-year-old Juan Berrios, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died, officials said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said they found what they believe is the weapon used in the slaying in a nearby sewer.
