Man dies when glass shard punctures liver; 3 arrested

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Authorities say a man died after a shard of glass punctured his liver during a fight outside a central Florida bar.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports 43-year-old Ali Malik was sitting in his truck parked outside Brown's Billiards on Saturday morning. That's when 25-year-old Andrae Jelks slapped the vehicle with his hand.

Holly Hill Police Chief Mark Barker says Malik got out of the truck and an argument escalated. Two of Jelks' friends joined in the fight and they went through a plate glass window at a nearby store. The fight continued, but the men fled before police arrived. They were arrested later.

Malik died at a hospital a short time later.

Jelks and the other two men were arrested and charged with second-degree murder. They are in jail without bail.
