Man hit, killed by train in Holly Hill

HOLLY HILL, Fla. — A man was hit and killed by a train in Holly Hill Wednesday, according to Volusia County dispatch.

The incident happened at the Florida East Coast Railway train tracks on 8th Street and Carswell Avenue at about 4 a.m.

Police said it is unknown whether the man walked or fell onto the side of the moving train. Police said a witness saw the man walk past the crossing arms.

Railway officials said the train was traveling northbound at approximately 48 mph.

“There is no foul play suggested at this time. This investigation has not determined the actual manner of death; accident or suicide. The medical examiner is performing an autopsy to determine if there were any contributing health factors,” Holly Hill Police Deputy Chief Jeffrey Miller said.

The name of the victim has not been released pending next of kin notification.

The tracks reopened just before 7 a.m.
