Man killed in Ocala officer-involved shooting identified

OCALA, Fla. — A man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting has been identified Friday, police said.

Ocala police said Kevin Tree was shot and killed during a confrontation at the Holiday Inn on South Pine Avenue.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation have not been released.

Channel 9's Myrt Price spoke with a man who was staying at the hotel.

"It's a little spooky. You know what I'm saying? I still have to go in and get my belongings out because I am definitely not staying here tonight," said Anthony Douglas.

Multiple officers were placed on paid leave, which is standard procedure during an investigation.

No officers were injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.

Tree's criminal record shows that he had been arrested for traffic violations, including driving on a suspended license and felony DUI.

He had also been arrested on charges of possession of a weapon by a felon and bringing contraband into a correctional facility.

Channel 9 learned that it's been 21/2 years since his last arrest in Marion County.
