Man shoots self twice in Catholic church, close to school

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - A suicide attempt at a church near the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School in Altamonte Springs has closed the school Thursday, police said.

Officers said a man walked into the church at about 7 a.m. and shot himself twice; first in the chest, and then in the head.

The man survived and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

"It's traumatic. The fact that this person was known to us is even more difficult," said one witness.

There were no other injuries reported.

The man's name was not released.
