Mars is full of mesas and buttes, NASA says

New images from NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover shows that Mars is similar to the U.S. Southwest with its eroded mesas and buttes, NASA said on Friday.

The rover captured several images of Mars on Aug. 5

The buttes and mesas are capped with rock that is similar to that formed by wind erosion, NASA said.

Curiosity landed on Mars four years ago and discovered ancient habitable environment. Now the rover is examining part of Mount Sharp to learn how freshwater lake conditions might have helped support life billions of years ago, NASA said.
