Melbourne man denied bond for allegedly shooting daughter's boyfriend

MELBOURNE, Fla. — A West Melbourne man was denied bond after police said he shot his adult daughter's boyfriend in the neck and struck his daughter with the gun.

Felix Vera was arrested Tuesday night for the shooting on East Haven Drive earlier that morning.

Vera is facing charges of attempted first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated battery and tampering with a witness.

Police said he shot Samuel Torgusen in the neck and struck Samantha Vera, his daughter, with the butt of the gun.

"We've had continual issues with traffic and other activity in the neighborhood that surrounds the address here," an unnamed neighbor said.

Vera owns the property and told police he doesn't trust his daughter or her friends and was in the process of evicting his daughter and boyfriend.

"I know (Vera) is a hardworking man. (He) came back over, got reassigned by his company and was trying to do the best that he could to settle the place down," one neighbor said.

Vera said Torgusen called him names as he was getting ready for work so he shot him.

Torgusen did not suffer life threatening injuries.
