MELBOURNE, Fla. - A Brevard County man is being credited with helping Melbourne police nab suspects accused of stealing Christmas gifts off of victims' porches.
Bobby Joyner said a group of two men and a woman caught his eye when he spotted them on Croton Road, so he called police.
"Just didn't seem right. I knew they didn't belong in the neighborhood," Joyner said. "When the guy came running with the package and jumped in the car and they took off very quickly, I knew."
As it turns out, the group was stealing packages from residents in the neighborhood, police said.
"Electronics, toys, kitchen items, what would be typical Christmas gifts," said Melbourne Police Dgt. Sheridan Shelley.
Channel 9 was on the scene within minutes of Melbourne police surrounding the suspects' vehicle on the Pineda Causeway. Three people were taken into custody.
"It's not my car. I don't know what's going on," one of the suspects said as he was being led away.
Witnesses, however, positively identified the suspects as the culprits who almost stole Christmas.
"Stop stealing and stay out of my neighborhood," said Joyner.
The names of the suspects have not yet been released.
