ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Authorities say a Tampa Bay area woman fatally stabbed her 5-year-old son.
St. Petersburg police say officers responded Friday evening to the Jordan Park Apartments, where the found the boy outside with multiple stab wounds. Officers began CPR at the scene. The boy was soon taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The boy had been staying with grandmother, who had legal custody of him.
The boy's mother, who was allowed to visit, stopped by the apartment Friday night. At some point, police say she grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began stabbing the boy.
Police have taken the mother into custody. Officials say the woman has a history of mental health issues.
