Motorcycle builder Billy Lane released after 6-year sentence for fatal crash

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A celebrity motorcycle builder is out of prison after serving six years for a fatal crash.

According to court records, Billy Lane served his time and was released Thursday.

Lane crashed his pickup truck head-on into motorcyclist, Gerald Morelock in Melbourne Beach in 2006, killing him.

Lane was sentenced in 2009. During court proceedings, Lane did not offer any excuses for the drunken-driving crash that killed Morelock. He repeatedly took responsibility, telling the court he was not seeking pity.

"I made the single most irresponsible decision in my life and it cost another man his life," Lane said. "I've had to think about what happened and I look up to the sky, pray to God for his soul and for his family."
