LAKE COUNTY, Fla. —

FHP said a motorcyclist is in critical condition after he crashed into the back of a trooper's patrol car in Lake County early Saturday morning.

Officials said the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on northbound County Road 452 near Lake Landing Boulevard in Eustis.

The trooper, who was driving his marked Dodge Charger patrol car, slowed down to turn left onto a dirt driveway, officials said. The motorcyclist was traveling behind the patrol car and was unable to slow down for unknown reasons, according to FHP.

The Honda motorcycle slammed into the back to the Dodge Charger, throwing the driver, a 46-year-old man, and his passenger off the bike. The man was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition and the passenger, 42-year-old Stacey Wells, is in serious condition, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation by FHP.
