Motorcyclist killed in crash with loaded school bus in Seminole County

SANFORD, Fla. — A motorcycle rider on Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Sanford died Friday morning when he crashed into a school bus, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash was reported at about 7:25 a.m. at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Bedford Road.

The motorcyclist, Dewey Nelson, 63, died in the collision, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 68-year-old school bus driver tried to cross the westbound and eastbound lanes of Ronald Regan Boulevard and pulled in front Nelson, troopers said.

The school bus had between 20 to 25 children on it, but none were reported injured.

Seminole County Schools released a statement concerning the crash Friday afternoon:

“We are deeply saddened that one of our school buses was involved in a fatal accident this morning. Our sincere condolences are with the family members of the deceased individual. While we are thankful our students were safe and unharmed, our focus and thoughts are with those who lost a loved one today.”
