FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. - A man accused of raping a woman in Central Florida has been arrested, Flagler County deputies said.
The arrest of Obtravies Andre Watkins, 34, of Ormond Beach was announced Wednesday morning.
Volusia County deputies received a call around 9:30 a.m. Monday from a passerby who saw a woman crawling from the woods, naked and bleeding, investigators said.
"This was absolutely a brutal attack that lasted for seven hours," Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said during a news conference.
The 25-year-old victim told deputies Watkins picked her up in Daytona around midnight and sexually assaulted her multiple times in Volusia County and then took her to Flagler County where he beat, choked the woman until she lost consciousness, investigators said.
The woman was able to give investigators a clear description of Watkins and his vehicle and investigators with the Daytona Beach Police Department were able to use their license plate readers to locate Watkins vehicle, investigators said.
Watkins was identified by the vehicle during a photo line-up, deputies said.
Watkins faces charges of attempted kidnapping, sexual battery using force and kidnapping.
Watkins is a registered sex offender after he was convicted in Flagler County of lewd and lascivious act on or in the presence of a child under 16 years of age, investigators said.
Watkins has an extensive criminal history including 21 felonies and 10 misdemeanors. He has also served time in state prison.
Watkins is being held without bail.
"This is a bad dirtbag and he needs to stay in jail for the rest of his life," Staly said.
