Mural painter dies after scaffolding collapses in South Florida

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A mural painter fell four stories to his death at a high-rise condominium under construction in South Florida, authorities said.

The scaffolding collapsed Monday afternoon at the Hyde Resort & Residences in Hollywood, officials said.

Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue Division Chief Lori Williams said two other men also fell in the accident, but their safety harnesses prevented fatal injuries.

Hollywood Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Christopher Del Campo said they're trying to determine if there was a problem with a wire or mechanical difficulties with the scaffold.

Authorities have not released the painter's name or the names of his colleagues.

Police said the mural was designed by Douglas Hoekzema, also known as Hoxxoh.

Local and federal officials are investigating.
