New AC, ventilation system expected at Orange County Animal Services

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County commissioners are set to approve on Tuesday construction bids to provide some upgrades at Orange County Animal Services.

It’s the second part of the project to improve ventilation at the animal shelter.

9 Investigates reported last summer that temperatures soared into the 90s inside building 300, where some of the pets are housed.

The county set aside $350,000 to improve ventilation in the building and construction should be complete by summer 2017.

The county told 9 Investigates at the time that they vowed to improve conditions at two buildings in the shelter.

County commissioners are expected to approve a $377,672 bid from Axios construction services.

The money will repair and replace the existing HVAC and ventilation system, plus renovate building 500, where several cats are housed.

The changes come as the county animal shelter reported its highest number of adoptions ever in a fiscal year. More than 8,300 were adopted from October 2015 to October 2016.

The county attributes some of the adoption success volunteers, community interest, more media coverage and affordable adoption rates.
