Clermont Publix shooting victim's car found torched, spray-painted

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Clermont police still need the public’s help in finding the person who shot and killed Andrew Da’Von Jones.

Jones was found dead Feb. 6 in the parking lot of the Publix in the East Towne Center Plaza near State Road 50 and County Road 455.

Police believe the person who shot Jones also stole the car Jones was last seen driving.

The car was discovered in Oakland on Sunday.

It was abandoned and torched.

During a news conference Monday, his family held pictures from happier times in their hands and begged the community for help.

“Ya’ll would want to know what happened to your son,” said the victim’s father, Steven Jones. “And if there is anyone out there, that has any information…I know someone knows something.”

Police said they’re investigating the graffiti spray-painted on the torched car to see if it’s related to the homicide. They are also searching the car and the area where it was found for clues.

“This is still an active and ongoing investigation so there are questions I will still not be able to answer at this time,” said Chief Charles Broadway of the Clermont Police Department.

As for the family, they said the pain they’re feeling now won’t go away until the person who killed Jones I behind bars.

“I want closure. I need closure. The family needs closure,” said Steven Jones.
