Nurse allegedly stole drugs, sold them out of home

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County deputies said they believe a nurse was using her position to steal drugs and then sell them out of her Orange City home.

The state said it's investigating 39-year-old Dawn McDaniel, who was the director of nursing at a rehab center in DeLand.

Investigators said they searched her house and found more than two dozen marijuana plants, mushrooms and prescription drugs.

WFTV spoke with a neighbor who said he was shocked by the allegations.

"She's a nurse? And she's been selling drugs and all that out of her house?" asked neighbor Dave Ripperger. "I can't believe that she would be doing something like that."

McDaniel was fired from her position at the rehab center and her nursing license was suspended after her arrest.
