OAKLAND, Fla. - An Oakland Police Department officer was arrested on charges of directing and promoting sexual performance of a child, said the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Joshua Smith, 32, of Lakeland was arrested Wednesday evening.

Authorities said the victim is a 2-year-old girl.

During a news conference Thursday afternoon, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said authorities will do everything in their power to make sure Smith will never serve as a law enforcement officer again.

"The conduct by this guy is appalling and outrageous," Judd said. "What we found was absolutely startling."

According to an arrest affidavit, Smith was on a social networking site where he was unknowingly talking to an FBI agent. The affidavit also sated that Smith wrote, "No limit perv dad here. Looking for someone like-minded to talk with, hit me up if interested."

Smith sent the agent three very graphic and sexual images of a 2-year-old child, officials said.

"When our detectives and FBI agents went into the residence, we found that very young child wearing the exact same clothes that were in the photographs," said Judd.

Judd said Smith had been with the Oakland Police Department for nine years.

Smith is in jail on a $150,000 bail.

Smith was placed on administrative leave from the police department.
