Officer helps man get home when electric wheelchair stops working during thunderstorm

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A south Florida police officer is being called a hero after he was caught on camera saving a man from a severe thunderstorm.

Fort Myers police Officer Gil Benitez helped Michael Arnold after his electric wheelchair stopped working.

Even after flashes of lightning, Benitez pushed Arnold all the way home and waited for his family to arrive.

"Sir, I am very grateful for your help. I didn't even catch your name, but I thank you," said Arnold.

Benitez said he doesn't consider himself a hero.

He said he was just doing his job.
