Officers honored for response to hours-long standoff with man at Orlando International Airport

ORLANDO, Fla. — Six officers were honored Wednesday for their response to the report of a man brandishing a gun at Orlando International Airport on May 30.

The officers were recognized during the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority board meeting.

The officers’ response was in connection with a two-hour standoff in the car rental area of Terminal A with a man holding a gun.

The man, Michael Pettigrew, 26, was suicidal at the time and at one point raised his gun and told officers to shoot him, investigators said.

Emergency responders were eventually able to talk Pettigrew into surrendering, and the gun used during the incident turned out to be fake, officers said.

GOAA board Chairman Frank Kruppenbacher commended the officers for their actions.

“They applied their training and expertise in negotiating with this gunman to relinquish his weapon and surrender,” Kruppenbacher said.

The Orlando Police Department officers honored during Wednesday’s meeting were:
Officer Charles Wadley
Officer Jeffrey Angel
Officer Noah Pruitt
Officer Jared Famularo
Capt. Isaiah White
Lt. Scott Boos
