Officials: Home destroyed in fire after lightning strike

THE VILLAGES, Fla. —

Marion County fire officials said a home in The Villages was destroyed in a fire Saturday night.

Firefighters said they responded to a 911 call from the homeowner around 9:30 p.m.

When crews got on scene, flames could be seen coming from the roof of the home. It took firefighters roughly 40 minutes to knock down the fire, according to officials.

Firefighters said the homeowners and their cat made it out of the house unharmed. The home is considered a total loss.

It was determined that the fire was sparked by a lightning strike, officials said.
