Officials: Mom stole $4k from soldier son serving in Afghanistan

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County mother pleaded no contest on charges of stealing thousands of dollars from her son, while he was deployed overseas.

Paula Barker was arrested in August.

Officials said when U.S. Marine Chadwick Barker returned from Afghanistan in September, 2011, $4,000 was missing from his bank account.

Investigators said Chadwick suspected it was his mother who stole the money.

Barker will spend the next five months in jail, officials said.
