Officials plead for public's help after burglar steals Jacksonville officer's guns, truck, dog

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville sheriff’s officer came home from duty this week to find burglars had broken into his home and stolen numerous items, including his guns, truck and dog, officials said.

The officer, who was not identified, had been working Tuesday while the break-in happened in his home in the Murray Hill area, the sheriff’s office said.

Along with the items inside the home and his personal pickup truck, his dog, Hemingway, was missing when the officer surveyed the damage.

The sheriff’s office reported investigators found blood at the scene but there was no indication if it was the dog’s or the burglar’s.

“We are not sure what happened, but we need the help of the Jacksonville community,” the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page.

Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call the sheriff’s office, 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers, 866-845-TIPS.

“Please help us find Hemingway,” the Facebook post said. “Please share, comment, and like, so this post gets as much exposure as possible.”
