CLERMONT, Fla. - After several hours of searching, Lake County officials recovered a man who fell off his paddleboard into Lake Minnehaha Saturday evening.
He was rushed to South Lake Hospital in Clermont, where he was pronounced dead.
According to officials, the victim, 29 year old Ronald Sikorski, was paddleboarding in the lake when he fell off the board around 6:10 pm.
Authorities say he started calling out to his friends for help.
Two of the victim's friends tried to help him, but by the time they reached him, he sank underwater and they were not able to locate him due to the murkiness of the water.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office started receiving calls around 6:15 pm reporting that a man had fallen off a paddleboard and had not resurfaced.
The Sheriff's Office used its dive team and helicopter to search for the man, in coordination with Lake County Fire Rescue and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
According to the FWC, the man was not wearing a lifejacket.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission will investigate the accident.
