Officials: Seminole deputy shoots at armed man near Lake Mary

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County deputy shot at an armed man Friday evening near Lake Mary, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. at a home on Holbrook Circle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators said the man’s relatives called 911 because he was threatening to harm himself with a knife.

Deputies convinced the man to set down the knife but he then drew a gun and pointed it "at or near" them, the Sheriff’s Office said.

One of the deputies shot at the man but missed him, and the man then dropped the weapon and surrendered, investigators said.

Officials said the deputy, who wasn’t publicly identified, won’t be taken off duty because no one was shot.

The man, who wasn’t publicly identified, was taken into custody for evaluation.

No other details were given.
