LAKE COUNTY, Fla. - A major bridge in Lake County that is about to be replaced could see new life as a fishing pier.
The bridge on State Road 19 between Howey-in-the-Hills and Tavares is scheduled to be replaced with two four-lane bridges.
Florida Department of Transportation officials said that Lake County residents will have until next summer to decide if they want to keep the old bridge for use as a fishing pier.
The cost to replace the bridge is expected to be more than $85 million.
Construction on the new bridges should start in 2017, according to officials.
