ORANGE CITY, Fla. - A couple in Orange City is celebrating 72 years of marriage this year.
Doris Vanderslice, 97, and Francis Vanderslice, 98, live at an assisted living facility at John Knox Village in Orange City.
The couple met in seveneth grade in junior high school in Camden, New Jersey, where they later bought a home for $5,000.
“We went together for five years before we got married,” said Francis. “We never had much money growing up because of the Depression, and it took us five years to get the money we needed to officially start our life together.”
Francis Vanderslice worked as an inspector for Campbell’s Soup, and Doris Vanderslice taught kindergarten at Longfellow Elementary School.
A celebration for the couple was recently held at their assisted living facility.
