ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - An Orange County man is arrested on false imprisonment and neglect charges.

Police said John Ramsey locked his elderly mother Catherine in a room, leaving her in deplorable conditions.

When WFTV reporter Renee Stoll went to Catherine Ramsey's home Wednesday night, she defended her son and changed her story.

"No ma’am, he didn't lock me in my room," said Ramsey.

Police said Ramsey told them her son tied a string around the door so she couldn't get out and threatened to kill her and himself Tuesday night.

Neighbor Alexis Jacobs said she was shocked.

"He's been very nice. Kind of keeps to himself," said Jacobs.

According to reports, John Ramsey was supposed to take care of his mother, who has a broken arm and needs supervision and care.

Instead, police said they found part of the ceiling falling down, cobwebs through the house, garbage on shelves and tables, dirty bed linens and no food in the refrigerator or freezer.

Jacobs said she's seen it firsthand.

"It smelled gross. There were dog… fecal matter everywhere," Jacobs said.

But Catherine Ramsey told Stoll her son took great care of her.

"Well that's a bunch of bologna. He's been making my meals three times a week, a day," Ramsey said.

A representative from the Department of Children and Families said Catherine Ramsey has been deemed to have full mental capacity, so they can't remove her from the home.

Her son can't bond out of jail, because he also has a warrant in Osceola County for drug charges.
