Orange County man shot while confronting suspicious group in gated community

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Authorities are investigating after an Orange County man was shot when he confronted burglars in his neighborhood over the weekend.

The victim, Presner Dejuste, confronted the suspicious-looking group on Cherry Grove Circle near Sand Lake Road when he was shot.

"One punched me," said the 51-year-old Dejuste. "When he punched me, (the) other one pulled the pistol. Boom. He shot me."

Dejuste said there have been a lot of recent break-ins and the three men looked suspicious, so he confronted them. He never expected one was going to pull out a .45-caliber pistol and shoot him.

The husband and father of three said the three men had backpacks on and were knocking on doors and casing homes.

"It's not my time yet. He just, (God) just keep me strong," said Dejuste.

Dejuste moved into the gated community 14 years ago. He said it was his first encounter with criminals, and he hopes it was his last brush with death.
