Orange County task force aimed at reducing gun violence finalizing recommendations

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The final meeting of the Orange County Citizens Safety Task Force got underway on Wednesday.

The group formed late last year after a rash of gang violence that left several children dead, including a 3-year-old boy.

The group is looking to provide recommendations on how to reduce gun violence.

The task force had four subcommittees focusing on prevention, intervention, law enforcement and prosecution.

The ideas presented on Wednesday included setting up civil citation diversion programs instead of putting people in the criminal justice system right away.

The final recommendations will be voted on by the task force on Wednesday and will then be presented to Orange County commissioners next month.
