Suspect named in Orlando musician's slaying

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County detectives said they are searching for a man who they believe killed an Orlando musician.

Damien Rahim, 37, was found dead in his car at a Days Inn motel on Frontage Road in Davenport Saturday night.

Investigators said they believe Calvin Deon Jones, 26, killed Rahim.

WFTV learned that Jones has a lengthy criminal record, and had served time for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Authorities said Jones was at the motel at the same time that Rahim was.

Polk County investigators released surveillance video taken from the Days Inn around the time of the slaying. The video shows a car circling the parking lot, but investigators said they are not sure whether that was Jones' car.

Rahim was a reggae musician in Orlando who went by the stage name “Khamelien."

"Such a nice person.  I can't believe it," said Rahim's friend, Steve Andrade.

Rahim preached non-violence through his music, so his friends are baffled by his death.

During a candle light vigil Sunday night, Rahim's friends gathered to remember the man who touched their lives and so many more through his lyrics.

"Spread the love.  That's all he would've wanted," said a friend, who did not give her name.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
