Orlando original 'Mama B's' sub shop might soon close its doors

ORLANDO, Fla. — A well-known Orange County mom and pop sub shop could soon be closing its doors for good.

Eyewitness News found out that the owners of Mama B's sub shop have put the two stores up for sale for $1.2 million each.

The first location opened at the corner of Colonial Drive and Orange Avenue in the 1970s.

The second location is on Orange Avenue near Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Election Day means a busy day in Mama B's kitchen.

There's a lot of preparation. We do it fresh every day,” said owner Harriet Adamick.

Adamick said she is ready to retire.

“(I want to) start a new chapter in my life,” Adamick said.

Mama B’s has remained in the shadow of development that it has resisted through the years.

“Everything is different. Everything. You can't hardly see our little store anymore,” said Adamick.

Customers said they would be saddened if the shop closed.

“Oh, wow. It's losing a lot of history,” said customer Maria Cruz.

Cruz said she’s been eating lunch at Mama B’s near ORMC for 20 years.

“It doesn't change. It's the same people over and over. It's like family. You get the opportunity to bond with people,” said Cruz.

The question on many residents’ minds is what would replace Mama B’s?

“I really don't know. I think they're mainly going to be buying it for investments. I'm not sure,” said Adamick.

Adamick is focusing on a different future which includes cherished memories of an Orlando original.

“It's making me very sad right now. I'm going to miss everybody,” said Adamick.

Adamick said her family has received a proposal to buy both properties as an investment.

It's unknown if the store will stay open, but Adamick expects the sale to happen before the end of the year.

“The friendliest and most genuine place. Music, people, atmosphere: that’s the Claddagh Cottage.”
