Orlando police open unsolved rape cases to see if recent rape suspect involved

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are looking into several unsolved rape and attempted rape cases to see if the man accused in a 2010 rape is involved.

Edgar Collazo, also known as the alleged “Hello Kitty Rapist” because of a tattoo, is being eyed in two other cases involving sex crimes.

Last week, the victim from a 2010 incident identified Collazo from a photo lineup as the man who attacked and raped her at the Bellagio Apartment Complex on Semoran Boulevard.

“It appears to be a pattern and my frustration is when people like that get away with it, that emboldens them to do more things,” said resident Chris Terrell.

Collazo’s attorney, Josh Adams, said police are looking broadly at other cases with similarities, wondering if he could be involved.

Adams said he has serious questions about the validity of the latest victim’s claim or Collazo raping her since the crime happened four years ago when she was 13.

Collazo is accused of trying to rape a woman at an Orlando IHOP restaurant in May.

Surveillance video shows him in the parking lot prior to the incident.

He bonded out of jail, but a DNA sample from a 2012 home invasion and rape case near the University of Central Florida led deputies to lock up Collazo again.

He allegedly attacked the two women at their apartment near Semoran Boulevard.
