Orlando police sergeant buried as manhunt for accused killer enters 6th day

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The search for a man accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend in December and later an Orlando police officer, is in its sixth day.

“I hope they find him. I pray they find him before he hurts somebody else,” said resident Barbara Powell.

Markeith Loyd has not been seen since last Monday when he was accused of shooting Master Sgt. Debra Clayton multiple times in a Walmart parking lot at John Young Parkway and Princeton Street.

Clayton was able to return fire.

Orlando police Chief John Mina announced earlier this week that Loyd might have been wearing a bulletproof vest because when officers found his clothing, there was a bullet hole in the shirt.

Several residents told Eyewitness News that on Saturday there was law enforcement activity in Altamonte Springs related to the search for Loyd.

Several tips were also reported in Brevard County, however there was no sign of Loyd.

Another neighborhood on Jackson Street, in Orlando, was searched based on tips from the community.

Mayan used to work at Texas Fried Chicken, and is one of the three people arrested for helping Loyd hide, investigators said.

Kevin Patel is friends with the renters, who said they don’t personally know Loyd.

“I did cooperate because I do want them to find him, but they ain’t got to go about it like this,” said Patel.

More than 1,000 Crimeline tips have poured in to help find Loyd, 41, but so far, no luck on his whereabouts.

This past Thursday and Friday, apartments in Haines City were searched. The Haines City Police Department posted on its Facebook page that Loyd had relatives in the area.

Family, friends and the community came together on Saturday to pay their respects for Clayton.
