Orlando to receive 'playful city' designation

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando is being recognized as one of the most playful cities in the United States.

The nonprofit KaBOOM! is announcing its list of playful cities on Tuesday. More than 200 U.S. cities will receive the designation for their efforts to build playgrounds and safe play alternatives.

Cities are being recognized for their commitment to promoting play everywhere. Orlando is making the list because of the city's refurbishments to create new urban play environments.

KaBOOM! has partnered in recent years with the Orlando Magic and other NBA teams to build playgrounds in cities around the country. It has since expanded its mission to advocating to help youth gain access to safe play alternatives everywhere.
