Osceola Co. changing how one school's students get picked up

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The Osceola County school district said it is making changes to how some students will get picked up in the morning.

Parents shot cellphone video of drivers speeding past their children's stopped school bus at U.S. Route 192 and Poinciana Boulevard.

The bus stops right on Route 192 and drivers will speed past at 45 mph as children are getting off the bus.

Parents whose children attend Westside K-8 are concerned and said they sometimes walk into traffic to signal drivers to stop.

"I am actually stepping into traffic getting the tag numbers and they are just ignoring me. They just keep on going past," parent Warren Partelow said.

Partelow said he wants to see the bus stop moved inside a parking lot away from traffic or have an officer out writing citations.

The school district said the driver will pull into the parking lot of the hotel for student drop-off and pickup starting immediately.
