Osceola County on track to become most populated in Orlando area

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Osceola County will surpass Seminole County in population and will become the most populated county in the Orlando metro area by 2030, according to Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington.

Some 50,000 new homes are expected to be built to accommodate more than 200,000 people expected to move into the area. Property tax revenue will go up some $30 million in five years.

For the county, that means that a lot of effort will go into improving roads and making a deal to negotiate a beltway to tie together with Orange and Seminole counties, Arrington said.

"If we're able to add additional connections to I-4, S.R. 429 and then over to the Turnpike, not only are we connecting Osceola County to the region, but we're beginning to shift traffic patterns on I-4,” Arrington said.

Seminole County has about 1,000 acres of development-ready real estate. Orange County has 10,000 acres of developable real estate and Osceola County has 100,000 acres of land that can be built on.

"With over 100,000 developable acres in Osceola County, just inside our urban growth boundary, and what folks have to understand is that the urban growth boundary is less than third of overall land in Osceola County,” Arrington said.
