Osceola deputies arrest suspect in manhole cover thefts

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Osceola County investigators said they have arrested a man who they believe stole 166 manhole covers in Poinciana.

Thursday evening deputies said they arrested Christopher Fink, 40, of Haines City.

Investigators said they learned that Fink was attempting to scrap the covers at area secondhand metal dealers.

According to investigators, the manhole covers were stolen sometime between Jan. 9 and Jan. 23. The covers were valued at $22,000.

Felony charges against Fink include grand theft, dealing in stolen property and giving false verification to a secondhand metal dealer, according to investigators.

Deputies said Fink was arrested in Haines City and would be booked into the Polk County Jail.

Original reports set the number of stolen manhole covers at 167.
