Osceola teaching assistants arrested after classroom fight will keep their jobs

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The Osceola County School Board voted not to suspend two teacher's aides, who deputies said did nothing to stop a fight between two special needs students.

Channel 9 Eyewitness News reported last week on a January 9 fight between students at Discovery Intermediate School. The fight was caught on cellphone video.

Two paraprofessionals, Kristie Lee Gilmore and Mona Sagar, were arrested and charged with child neglect. Authorities said they didn't take any action to stop the incident in the classroom. Three students were also arrested in the incident.

On Tuesday night, the board voted four to one to keep Gilmore and Sagar on the job, but they will not be allowed in a classroom.
