Out-of-control brush fire threatens Polk County homes

LAKELAND, Fla. — An out-of-control brush fire threatened homes in Polk County Sunday afternoon.

The brush fire was reported just before 1 p.m. on Dawn Heights Drive in Lakeland, officials with Polk County Fire Rescue said.

The Lakeland Fire Department and The Florida Forest Service were called in to help contain the fire. The fire was under control as of 4 p.m., but not extinguished.
