Overnight fire rips through Orange Co. home

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County couple made it out of their home safely after a fire tore through it Saturday night.

The flames could be seen shooting through the roof of the two-story home on Hiawassee Overlook Drive near Hiawassee Road.

Firefighters said they believe the fire started in the attic.

Officials said the smoke alarm woke up the family and gave them enough time to escape from the home.

“They (the flames) were huge. You could feel the heat from here, it was very, very hot,” said witness Manuel Motta.

One of the residents of the home was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire marshal is investigating what caused the fire.
