SANFORD, Fla. — An Oviedo police officer, who was indicted Tuesday, was freed from the John E. Polk Correctional Facility after paying $60,000 bail.
Officer Matthew Danler was indicted for his involvement in a shooting last year that injured two.
Danler had nothing to say when he walked out of jail hours after he was indicted on two counts of aggravated battery and one count of shooting into a vehicle.
The charges stem from a Sept. 1 incident on Sharon Court, when someone called 911 and hung up.
When officers arrived, Jason Scott, 33, fled from a traffic stop in a vehicle and was revving his vehicle toward Danler, police said.
Investigators said Danler fired several rounds into the car, injuring Scott and his wife. Both have since recovered.
Scott was initially charged with aggravated assault on an officer, but his attorney told Channel 9 on Wednesday that the charge was reduced to fleeing from an officer.
Investigators with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said the incident was recorded by two officers who were wearing body cameras.
Officials said they would have to get permission from the State Attorney's Office before releasing the footage.
FDLE said Danler declined investigators' multiple requests to provide a statement about what happened.
Danler is on unpaid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
"We have a process we have to follow, and until we finish that process, that status will remain," said Oviedo Police Chief Jeffrey Chudnow when asked why Danler was still employed.
