Oviedo residents fed up with construction workers breaking road rules

OVIEDO, Fla. — A tractor-trailer belonging to a construction company was caught on camera ignoring a stop sign in a Seminole County neighborhood.

People who live nearby say it's just one of countless dangers developers have brought to their street, which is full of school bus stops.

Residents are pointing the finger at the city of Oviedo.

City leaders approved the new development on Lake Charm Drive so neighbors say it should be on them to regulate the construction.

The main problem, they said, is heavy machinery racing up and down a residential street

Resident Barry Cammack took video of a tractor-trailer running a stop sign.

“It blew right back through a stop sign on Panther and Lake Charm, which is a bus stop,” said Cammack.

He said it’s become a problem in a normally quiet Oviedo neighborhood, now filled with noisy construction.

Cammack said the construction combined with the number of school bus stops may end up being a lethal concoction.

“That is not a recipe to be mixed with heavy construction materials,” he said.

Last week, Cammack took his concerns to city leaders and was told the city manager would fix the issues, but seven days later, it’s still business as usual at the construction site.

The project is expected to last two years and involve several different contractors.

Eyewitness News reached out to Blue Ox, whose contractors are working on the project.

The owner said he's policing workers and disciplining drivers who break the rules.

But neighbors said it should be on the city to crack down.

“The developers need to work in harmony with us because this is a neighborhood first,” said Cammack.
