Palm Bay man charged with father's killing in Connecticut

PALM BAY, Fla. — A Palm Bay man has been charged with murdering his father in Connecticut four years ago.

Investigators said Michael Whilby killed his father in 2008 but wasn’t arrested until recently, after police in Melbourne started to become suspicious.

Melbourne Beach police said Whilby was acting odd, and they were called to Spessard Holland Park, where Whilby made some incriminating statements about his father's death to officers.

Evans Whilby, 66, was found dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs on Jan. 16, 2008, at his Farmington, Conn., home.  Police said they now believe the man was  pushed  by his 38-year-old son.

"This individual was acting nervous," Melbourne Beach Police Chief Dan Duncan said of Whilby. "So the officer was questioning him, and this individual made several incriminating statements about a possible homicide."

Melbourne Beach investigators contacted Farmington police, who reopened the investigation into the death of Evans Whilby.

Michael Whildy appeared in court on Wednesday on murder charges. He is being held on $1 million bond.

Whilby’s mother told investigators her son has a history of mental health issues.
