DeLAND, Fla. - Some parents in DeLand said they're still waiting for answers after learning their child's day care closed and cleared out without any notice.
The Children's Playskool on Woodland Boulevard was apparently shut down over the weekend.
"You got no call, no email, no letter, nothing?" asked reporter Kenneth Craig.
"Nothing at all whatsoever," said parent Keegan Formel.
Formel said he just paid $100 to Children's Playskool and had no idea the day care was about to close.
"Where my daughter going to go tomorrow for school? (I'm) a little bit mad, upset," said another parent, Jade Soncrant.
The owner's attorney told Channel 9 the parents should have known the place was having problems and might shut down. He said parents were kept in the loop and
the owner was having major financial troubles.
said the owner had no choice but to shut down after the center lost federal and state funding for voluntary pre-kindergarten and school readiness programs when those contracts were recently terminated with the Early Learning Coalition.
The attorney went on to say that
parents who already paid are going to get their money back, along with any items they still had inside the day care.
In the meantime, parents said they're now scrambling to find another place for their children.
"It's annoying that they couldn't call at least and say, 'Hey, this is what's going on,'" said Formel.
