Parents killed, children injured in crash on I-4 near DeLand

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Missouri couple was killed and their two children were injured Sunday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 4 near DeLand, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 121, FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Charles King, 43, of New London, North Carolina, was driving in the center lane when his Ford Focus drifted into the left lane and collided with a Nissan car driven by Greg Moyers, 40, of Leadwood, Missouri, Montes said.

Troopers said Moyers' car then left the roadway and struck a tree, killing him and his 39-year-old wife, Sarah Moyers.

The crash seriously injured Hailey Moyers, 13, and critically injured Sophia Moyers, 8, investigators said.

The children were flown to Orlando's Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for treatment.

King wasn't injured in the crash. Montes said he could face charges.

Traffic was diverted to State Road 44 while troopers investigated the crash, which blocked eastbound lanes of I-4 for hours. The road has since been reopened.

The crash continues to be investigated. %
