ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A boil water alert remains in effect for more than 11,000 residents in West Orange County, following a water main break Sunday.
Crews have fixed the water main break that was affecting water supply to parts of west Orange County Sunday afternoon.
Officials said they still don't know what caused the pipe to break and said it took 10 hours to get the water flowing again.
The 24-inch underground water main break was at Summerport Village Parkway in Windermere. Orange County Fire Rescue was assisting Orange County Utilities to repair the break.
Thousands of people were affected by the outage, with reports coming in from Windermere and surrounding areas.
"I was in the shower and the water just stopped," said resident Robert Ercolino.
Residents flocked to nearby grocery stores to stock up on water.
Those 11,000 residents woke up Monday having to boil water before drinking or cooking with it. Orange County Utilities said the water samples were still being tested for contamination.
