Police: 1 dead, another critically injured in Port Orange crash

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — A person was killed and another was critically injured Saturday evening when two vehicles collided, the Port Orange Police Department said.

The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Dunlawton Avenue near Yorktowne Boulevard, Port Orange police Sgt. Joseph Rhodes said.

"A white Dodge was traveling west on Dunlawton Avenue," Rhodes said. "A black Honda was traveling east on Dunlawton Avenue and attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of the white Dodge, causing the two vehicles to collide."

Officers said the driver of the Honda was hospitalized in critical condition, and a passenger in that vehicle died at the crash scene.

Rhodes said the driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

No one involved was publicly identified.

The crash continues to be investigated.
